Endpapers toned with minimal foxing, a few light pencil markings to text. Binding firm and square. Originally published in 1905, Chesterton's study of Christian heresies as manifested in the literature and thought of his day, with essays on his favorite sparring partner Bernard Shaw, H.G. Wells, Rudyard Kipling, "The Slum Novelist and the Slums", On Smart Novelists and the Smart Set", et al. A companion to his later work Orthodoxy (1908), although literary and sociological in topic, stands as an apologetic work in defense of Christian moral theology. Scarce early hardcover edition; a nice example thus.
