Anagoge (ἀναγωγή) is the Greek word for climb or ascent, and is defined as the mystical or spiritual sense of a text in sacred scripture and in literature. Flannery O'Connor describes the anagogical as "the kind of vision that is able to see different levels of reality in one image or situation...which [has] to do with the divine life and our participation in it...an attitude toward all of creation, and a way of reading nature..." Our shop logo, hand illustrated by Joel Jensen-Heath, visualizes the word with symbology inspired by Hildegard von Bingen, John of the Cross, and The Cloud of Unknowing.
ANAGOGE BOOKS was founded in 2024 by Gabriel Connor and currently operates out of Bellevue, Kentucky, across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio.
