This hardcover facsimile anthology gathers the four mimeographic poetry and photo zines published by the Trappist monk and writer, a quarterly publication and one of Merton’s last undertakings before his death, printed originally in 1968. The Monk’s Pond series, lasting the four seasons of the year from Spring to Winter, prints original and republished work by his Kentucky and southern neighbors Wendell Berry, Jonathan Greene and Jonathan Williams, and many New York poets including Jack Kerouac, Denise Levertov, Louis Zukofsky, with a special section of Volume III dedicated to concrete poetry. Original black and white photographs by Merton and Kentucky outsider photographer Ralph Eugene Meatyard. Decorations and typographic work by Robert Lax. A beautiful production, printed in a limited by the University of Kentucky and now scarce.
